Re: On Alec MacGillis, Mary Carey, Alan Chartock, Glenn Heller, & Joe Kelly Levasseur...

I bumped into Alec MacGillis last December 9th, 2007, after I attended an Obama & Oprah event at "the Verizon Center" near my studio apartment in downtown Manchester, NH. He graduated in my brother's high school class, along with another famous person: Movie Actress Elizabeth "Banks". I graduated from Pittsfield High School the following year in 1993.
I have set up a new blog page on Alec:

I also have Blog pages dedicated to Mary E. Carey, another first-rate journalist covering state politics and movie reviews, who graduated from Pittsfield High School about a month before I was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in 1975. She is my favorite new journalist EVER!

Another journalist I like, but also often disagree with, is Alan Chartock:

Also, I admire the journalistic work of Glenn Heller:

Since I have lived in Manchester, NH, since late-January, 2005, I have come to admire more and more each passing day the journalistic work of Joe Kelly Levasseur. I also admire one of his colleagues, Joe Briggs, but I find Joe Briggs to be sycophanitc to power, while Joe Kelly Levasseur will fight windmills with more conviction than Don Quixote!

I admire Alec MacGillis for his high intellect and grassroots coverage; I admire Mary E. Carey for her brutal honesty and willingness to represent ALL citizens, not just the powerful; I admire Alan Chartock for his beliefs in human rights for all peoples and that even the underdog deserves to be heard in the public forum; I admire Glenn Heller for giving everyone a voice, standing up to the powerful, such as GE's toxic waste PCBs sites, and going against the insider's clique; I admire Joseph Kelly Levasseur for never being intimidated by anyone. He is like David slaying Goliath every single day of his life. His love for Manchester, New Hampshire, is so strong that he takes on the political insiders at his own personal expense, such as when he spent tens of thousands of dollars running for Mayor last year, and now being criticized by the local political class for falling behind on some of his business expenses and local tax accounts.
The Press or Journalism, or the news media, is the FOURTH ESTATE of Politics. Never forget that journalists are de facto politicians.
Sincerely,
Jonathan A. Melle
